This year marks a truly historic moment for the Church and for young Catholics around the world. On 7 September 2025, our beloved patron, Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati, will be officially proclaimed a saint of the Holy Roman Church, together with Blessed Carlo Acutis.

For the Frassati Society Philippines, this canonization is not only a moment of joy but also a mission. Pier Giorgio has long been our model of youthful holiness, charity, and courage. His motto, “Verso l’Alto”—to the heights—reminds us that sanctity is not distant or unreachable but can be lived daily with faith, service, and joy.

Celebrations in Rome

The canonization Mass will take place on Sunday, September 7, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. in St. Peter’s Square, Rome. According to the Vatican, no tickets are required, so seating will be on a first-come, first-served basis. We are still awaiting word on whether a post-canonization gathering will be organized for English-speaking pilgrims.

On the eve of the canonization, two events have been scheduled, both open to the public. At 5:00 p.m., a gathering will be held at San Pio X Hall, Via dell’Ospedale, followed later that evening at 8:30 p.m. by a prayer vigil at the Church of Santa Maria in Traspontina, located along the Via della Conciliazione leading to St. Peter’s.

Immediately after the canonization, a special commemorative stamp of Saint Pier Giorgio (and one of Saint Carlo Acutis) will be available for purchase at the Vatican Post Office, just off St. Peter’s Square.

Our Frassati Society Moderator will also be present in Rome and will provide real-time updates from the canonization rites, bringing the experience closer to our community at home.

Pilgrimage to Turin and Pollone

In preparation for this canonization, we will also embark on a pilgrimage to Turin and Pollone, the hometown of Pier Giorgio. These holy places (his parish, his family home, and the mountains he loved) speak volumes about his faith and ordinary holiness. Live broadcasts from this pilgrimage on September 4–5, 2025 will allow our brothers and sisters in the Philippines to spiritually join in the journey.

Celebrating in the Philippines

Since not everyone can be in Rome, the Frassati Society Philippines will host a Frassati Day Thanksgiving Celebration on September 13, 2025, from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the National Shrine and Parish of Our Lady of Loreto, Sampaloc, Manila.

The day will include a reflection on Pier Giorgio’s life, the celebration of the Holy Mass, an exhibit entitled “Verso l’Alto – The Life and Holiness of Pier Giorgio”, Eucharistic adoration, confession, and moments of fellowship and joy. It will be a beautiful occasion for devotees, collaborators, promoters, and friends to unite in thanksgiving for Pier Giorgio’s canonization.

Why This Celebration Matters

Pier Giorgio Frassati lived only 24 short years, yet his life continues to inspire countless faithful across generations. A student, mountaineer, man of prayer, and servant of the poor, he showed that holiness is possible in ordinary life. His canonization affirms to today’s world—especially the youth—that sainthood is not reserved for the few, but is a universal call.

By celebrating Frassati Day both in Rome and in Manila, we hope to bring his witness closer to the hearts of the faithful, inspiring many to discover his joy, courage, and love for Christ.
