Pier Giorgio Frassati passed into eternal life on July 4, 1925, at his family home in Turin. He was twenty-four years old. His death was caused by polio, believed to have been contracted from his visits to slum areas.
When Pier Giorgio first contracted the illness, his family was concerned about the impending death of his grandmother. Many things tormented him internally, apart from the pain he suffered from polio. His parents had been on the verge of separation, and he also had to sacrifice his love for Laura. Nevertheless, Pier Giorgio bore these sufferings with perseverance.

Even in his last days, he never forgot his friends, especially the poor. He continued giving material assistance to them through his sister Luciana. He did not fear death as it approached closer, for he knew that he was finally coming home to God.
Many people attended Pier Giorgio’s funeral, including his friends and the poor of the city who followed his coffin. This reflected what a life he had lived, full of sanctity and love for God and his fellow men.
