Many saints influenced Saint Pier Giorgio Frassati during his life. In particular, he has made several references to Saint Paul, the Apostle to the Gentiles.
Pier Giorgio made references to the letters of Saint Paul to letters to his friends. He was also known to give a copy of Saint Paul’s Epistles in Latin to Laura Hidalgo after losing a bet. He then gave her the Italian translation of the Epistles.
The Letters of Saint Paul were a great source for Pier Giorgio’s spiritual life that he always brought a copy of 1 Corinthians 13 with him. This refers to Paul’s Hymn of Charity (which can be summed up with the verse, “Charity never fails.” – 1 Corinthians 13:8.) In his deathbed, he also encouraged his friend Isidoro Bonini to read the writings of Saint Paul as well.
