Pier Giorgio fell in love with his friend Laura Hidalgo but had to sacrifice his love for her. Laura was three years older than him and studied mathematics. She was an orphan who took care of her younger brother. They met in 1923 at Little St. Bernard, where Pier Giorgio went skiing. The two developed a close friendship with Laura also becoming a member of the Tipi Loschi Society.
Pier Giorgio never confessed his love for Laura because at that time, his parents had marital problems. He did not want to add further problems to his family, and so he kept his feelings to himself. However, he did confide in Luciana and some friends about this shortly before his death in 1925. He expressed his renunciation of his love for Laura while desiring for her happiness, and asked for prayers to bear the heartbreak.
