His Studies

Blessed Pier Giorgio began his studies at home with his sister Luciana. In 1910, the Frassati siblings were enrolled in the public school Massimo D’Azeglio. At age 12, Pier Giorgio failed his Latin exams, which led him to transfer to a private school run by the Jesuits, known as Instituto Sociale. It was this school that began to nourish his spiritual life at a young age. He joined religious organizations such as the Apostleship of Prayer, the Eucharistic Crusade, and the Company of the Blessed Sacrament in 1914. Pier Giorgio was also encouraged to receive daily Communion.

In 1918, Pier Giorgio completed his high school degree at the Instituto Sociale. For university, he then enrolled at the Royal Polytechnic of Turin School of Mechanical Engineering with a specialization in mining engineering. Pier Giorgio wanted to be a mining engineer to better serve the miners who were subjected to poor working conditions.

He took his studies seriously, which for him was a duty and a path to service. However, Pier Giorgio was not able to complete his degree when he died in 1925, not being able to take up two remaining exams. It was only on the 100th anniversary of his birth on April 6, 2001, that the Royal Polytechnic of Turin posthumously granted his mechanical engineering degree.
